Nox Quick Start Guide

Thank you for choosing Identiv Nox

Nox is Identiv’s cloud native, highly scalable and highly secure access control system. This guide will help you get started with your Nox devices and how to manage and configure them. Once you have set up one door controller and configured it the process becomes quite intuitive.

Overview

Your Nox starter pack will contain:

1x Nox controller
1x TS Reader
5x TS Cards
1x Fail-safe door strike
1x Request to Exit (REX) button

You will need an ethernet switch which can provide Power over Ethernet (PoE, 802.3af compliant) and ethernet cables. Your Nox devices will also need access to the internet: as part of your initial setup, the Nox controller may need to update it’s software and both the controller and reader will receive ongoing configuration updates from the cloud.

Connecting Your Devices

If you are using the supplied door strike then the easiest and simplest way to get started is to power it directly from the Nox controller. Nox controllers provide limited power - if you are using a different lock you may need a separate power supply.

How can I join Nox beta testing?

Can I get a spreadsheet of my event history?

Yes, contact our support and we can provide you with your event history.

How else can I access my event history?

With our integrations feature and a service such as Zapier or Automate.io, you can get events delivered to different sources for further analysis. For example, you can use this setup to deliver access events or online status to a Google Sheet or Airtable.

How can I manage visitors?

There are two main ways Nox can help manage visitors to your space. Here's a quick ${color}#ff0000 for both.

Designated Visitor Badges

Card-style badges are the most recognizable form of door entry. You can choose to set aside some pre-configured badges for visitors.

Mobile App

It is quick and easy to add a new mobile user. Once invited to Nox your visitor can install the mobile app and unlock doors. Once your visitor has left you can simply delete them from Nox to remove their access.

Can schedules account for holidays?

Schedules do not currently support configuration for holidays. As an alternative, you can create multiple schedules that simulate holiday schedules for your site and switch between them in the Lock Co

Overview

The Dashboard is a quick visual overview of Statistics, Events and Activities in your tenant.

Statistics

The Statistics section is an overview of how many configuration items are in your account.

Events

The Events section is a near-realtime view of events occurring in your account. You can also see how events relate to each other (e.g. access granted vs access denied). You can use the drop down menu to select the graphs to display either a 7 day period, or a 24 hour period. The current list of Events are:

Activity Hotspots

Activity Hotspots are the most active doors and users in your system in the selected period of time. You can use the drop down menu to select the graphs to display either a 7 day period, or a 24 hour period. The current list of Hotspots are:

Top 5 Doors
Top 5 Users The Hostpots are displayed in blocks based on the percentage of usage. The larger the block, the more the usage in comparison to the other displayed Hotspots. Also, as seen in the sample image below, if there are less than 5 doors or users in a given timeframe, only those will be displayed.

Door Configuration

Overview

Identiv Nox links doors with door controllers. When a Nox controller is shipped to you, it will be preconfigured for your account.

Connecting your controller to a PoE-enabled network switch will power it on; once it gains a network connection it will self register and become available for assignment to a door.

Adding Doors

Navigate to the door view in the Nox web app and click the + button to create a new door. You will need to give your door a name. You can also assign the door to a group, add tags and configure whether the door should be locked or unlocked:

If you click add at this point the door record will be created but until it is paired with a door controller it is not usable in Nox. You can select a controller here (or come back and do it at any time).

You can also update the relay time (delay before door locks after granting access) here, or choose a Door Group to dictate the relay time as as guide. If you have a relay time dictated by the Door Group, be aware that entering something different in this field will over-ride the Door Group relay time for this door only. | Relay times can range between 0.5 and 60 seconds

Events

Overview

Identiv Nox provides a real time view of the events occurring in your system. These may vary from users unlocking doors to door controllers losing connectivity. We provide fast access to events in the web app and it is also possible to integrate the Nox event feed with external apps.

Sample events

Clicking the time for an event will show greater detail for that event. See 'Event Types' below for examples.

Filtering Events

There are two ways to zoom in on events that you are interested in. Firstly, you can simply click on the user or door on an event and go to the events tab for that object. That will show you all the events for that object.

Nox also provides a way to quickly filter events in the view. If you hover your mouse on any row you will see a filter icon. Clicking that icon allows you to filter on user or door:

Events can be limited to showing only the door, user or event type selected; or, conversely, to remove events like the one selected from the view. Multiple filters can be added at once to allow sophisticated queries to be built.
